Tasting Room Manager (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

The Service Manager is responsible for leading a team of Tasting Room Associates to ensure sales growth while providing our customers with unforgettable tasting experiences. This is not a top-down management position that will be secluded in a back office. Instead, the Service Manager will be expected to be on the front lines, working side-by-side with our Tasting Room Associates, leading by example and elevating each Associate’s level of service and sales via their coaching and expertise. As this position is stationed away from our headquarters, this role will hold important responsibilities as a point-person in Paso Robles.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Increase sales of wine, wine clubs, and retail products. Inspire and lead team to meet or exceed daily, monthly and quarterly sales goals. 
  • Participate in all hospitality duties, including tastings, appointments and hosting events. 
  • Ensure the experience customers have at Tank Garage Winery is memorable and regularly exceeds expectations.  Responsible for all customer service issues. 
  • Solve, remedy, and proactively address customer challenges or requests.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, attractive and well-run tasting room.  
  • Act as the safety lead for the Tasting Room. Conduct safety inspections at least quarterly, address safety issues, and respond to any injuries that occur on site. 
  • Inspire an environment that fosters teamwork and ensures positive staff morale. Leads by example and holds self and other team members to company values.   
  • Train all new Tasting Room Associates and provide supplemental training to existing team members as needed to ensure Tasting Room team is performing optimally. 
  • Provide performance feedback and coaching to Tasting Room Associates. This may include addressing performance issues and taking disciplinary action, in consultation with General Manager. 
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and other employment tasks.
  • Assist in execution of hospitality events for private/public functions. 
  • Regularly conduct inventories of wine, merchandise, and necessary supplies to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Reliably communicate and collaborate with our headquarters in Napa, California and other Tank Garage Winery tasting rooms. This position may require quarterly travel to Napa Valley or other locations for meetings, planning, and training.
  • Act as a local liaison when needed for local permitting, banking tasks, logistics, and facilities tasks.
  • Assist in building strong relationships in the community and with neighboring wineries.
  • Communicate facilities problems in a timely manner to General Manager; serve as on-site contact for facilities vendors as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.   • 3-5 years of wine sales, retail sales and/or hospitality experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or passion for wine. 
  • Ability to effectively manage others to include training, and sales performance management.
  • Ability to train others to exceptionally high standards.
  • Customer service training, whether formal or informal, is sufficient to be able to resolve difficult situations with ease and to cross-sell or upsell effectively.
  • Experience managing inventory systems with accuracy.
  • Strong technical and computer skills.
  • Experience with wine or restaurant POS systems. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other team members. 
  • Must work weekends and ability to work some late nights, holidays, and special events as needed.
  • Works out of Tank Garage Winery in Paso Robles, California.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds (case of wine) on a regular basis.
  • Ability to remain standing on feet for long periods of time. 
  • Age 21 years or older.
  • Driven to sell, grow and improve.
  • Ability to demonstrate consistent professionalism and responsibility while maintaining a fun environment.


COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS

  • Base Compensation: $60,000-$75,000 depending on experience.
  • Incentives: Individual tasting room tips, quarterly bonus incentives, and Wine Club commissions.

  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
