SUMMARY: The Winemaker plans, coordinates and manages all aspects of winemaking to ensure effective and profitable operation and growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Indirect supervision of cellar, laboratory and junior winemaking staff
  • Oversees all aspects of fermentation and wine processing, including work order planning
  • Works with Operations staff to ensure conformance to standard operating procedures and other related winemaking practices
  • Adheres to O’Neill and bulk customer specifications
  • Proposes blends for customers and bottling programs, then executes approved blends.
  • Interacts with sales staff and customers regarding wine readiness and shipping, on-site tasting, sample preparation
  • Monitors quality of work; assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations
  • Works closely with grower relations to provide guidance on desired grape chemistries and quality
  • Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of winemaking staff; actively works to promote and recognize performance
  • Participates and represents O’Neill in outside marketing and sales events

  • Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Viticulture or related. Certificate in Enology, Viticulture, or relevant experience considered with other four-year degrees
  • Three to five years’ related experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to make successful presentations to individuals and/or groups at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to adhere to companies’ 4 core standards
