Covenant Winery, a premium kosher wine producer located in Berkeley, CA, is seeking a Cellar Master to work closely with our winemaker and be responsible for day to day cellar production.
Job Description:
• Forklift - unloading and loading fruit, safely move equipment; tanks, barrels etc.
• Safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
• Fermentation management.
• White/Red press operations.
• Additions.
• Barrel work - cleaning, steaming, filling, emptying, and topping.
• Tank work - racking, transferring and blending.
• Observance of all safe cellar practices.
• Assist with all bottling.
• Manage and train cellar interns.
• Repair and maintenance of winery equipment, when appropriate.
• Oversee routine in-house wine analysis throughout the year.
Requirements:
• Ability to make kosher wine and familiarity with laws of Kashrut.
• Ability to fulfil the duties of a Mashgiach.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Positive attitude.
• Previous experience and/or degree in winemaking or similar field is favorable.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• The ability to work long hours when necessary and to lift 50 pounds easily.
• The ability to climb and/or stand for long periods of time.
• Forklift experience is a plus!
• Must have a valid drivers license.
• A high level of mechanical and technical aptitude.
This position is a full-time, hands-on role with responsibility for the day-to-day production work carried out by the winemaking team. As we are a small team, you will be engaged in all aspects of the winemaking.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, sit, walk, climb, stoop and kneel. The applicant must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Competitive salary DOE.
The successful applicant must provide their own transportation, and must live or be willing to relocate to the bay area.
