Assistant Viticulturist (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Pahlmeyer, a family owned winery is looking for a passionate and dedicated Assistant Viticulturist to join our vineyard team. This position is accountable for providing the vineyard and winemaking teams with information, data, and quality objectives to help ensure fruit is grown to the winemaker's specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Observes, inspects, and records all viticulture practices and vineyard conditions at the Pahlmeyer Estate and grower vineyards, including vineyard growth and phenological development, pruning, cultivation, canopy management, fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease pressure, crop management, harvesting, and erosion control.
•  Records all required data for improved winegrowing at the Estate, such as petiole analysis, soil analysis, disease analysis, pest populations, crop estimates, water potential readings, and other related measures.
•  Monitors and chronicles weather data.
•  Inputs viticultural data and distributes as needed.
•  Samples fruit at vineyards, assists with analysis of samples, and records data for winemaking team to analyze.
•  Monitors Estate and Grower picks.
•  During harvest, participate in all winery responsibilities as well as other year round duties in support of the winemaking team.
•  Works with vineyard staff on implementation of projects, trials, and improvement of practices.
•  Assists with Vineyard administration including safety program.
•  Assists with pick-up of vineyard materials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture and/or Enology, or a combination of education and experience.
• One to three years’ experience in a comparable position.
• Possession of a valid CA driver’s license.
