Winemaker - Production Operations (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Full Time

  Shannon Family of Wines

  Kelseyville, California

The role

Make great wine, keep production moving, and help a small-but-mighty team do its best work. This hands-on role leads day-to-day winemaking and production operations—from cellar and lab to inventory, shipping, compliance, and facility readiness.

You’ll balance wine quality with practical execution, partner across departments, solve problems before they become bottlenecks, and create a workplace where people feel safe, respected, and ready to jump in.

What you’ll own

· Wine & quality: Oversee in-house winemaking, wine styles, innovation, cellar, harvest, laboratory, bottling, sanitation, and facility effectiveness.

· People & workflow: Lead and train cellar and production staff; plan daily work; support productivity, teamwork, and a positive culture.

· Inventory & logistics: Coordinate bulk-wine movements, additives, chemicals, production supplies, equipment, shipping, receiving, and maintenance deliveries.

· Continuous improvement: Spot performance issues, solve them, and recommend smarter processes, equipment, and facility improvements.

· Cross-functional support: Work closely with Operations, Admin, front-of-house, sales, customers, and outside partners on supply chain, facilities, health and safety, and special projects.

· Hands-on production: Jump into cellar and barrel-room work, forklift and hoist operation, cleaning, organization, landscaping, facility upkeep, build-outs, and harvest overtime when needed.

Records, reporting & compliance

·  Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements for winemaking and winery facilities.

·  Keep SDS information current and accessible for wine additives and cleaning products, consistent with OSHA requirements.

·  Complete monthly wastewater reporting to the county and state.

·  Keep wine analysis, tasting notes, and fact-sheet information current and available to the sales team.

Safety & sustainability

·  Lead by example: follow and reinforce safe operating procedures, food-safety practices, and the Injury & Illness Prevention Program.

·  Report employee injuries, unsafe behavior, and unsafe conditions promptly to management and Human Resources.

·  Support CCSW sustainability practices and location programs for conservation, energy efficiency, recycling, and responsible operations.

What you bring

·  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

·  Six to eight years of winemaking or closely related experience, with strong working knowledge of cellar and production functions.

·  A high bar for quality, safety, accuracy, and follow-through.

·  Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

·  The ability to manage shifting priorities with flexibility, good judgment, and a sense of humor.

·  Proficiency with Microsoft Office, OneDrive, and Vintrace.

·  Working knowledge of data collection, analysis, evaluation, and the scientific method.

·  Comfort working with people across all levels of the organization. Spanish is a plus.

Schedule & work environment

This is an hourly position, generally 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Harvest typically requires a six-day schedule and longer hours; schedules may flex with the season and client needs.

Work takes place indoors and outdoors and may include wet or slippery conditions, seasonal heat, cold and rain, high noise levels, chemicals, and wine-production machinery.

Physical requirements

This is an active role in a fast-paced winery. It requires good vision and hearing; prolonged standing and walking; frequent use of stairs and ladders; bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and climbing; and the occasional lifting and moving of boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
