Job Description
The Harvest Cellar Worker assists in the Crush Season by providing support to the Winemaking/Cellar departments to help ensure quality in all aspects of the winemaking process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Shoveling pomace from tanks
• Stave removal or installation
• Pulling hoses and setting up pumps
• Cleaning and sanitizing tanks and process equipment
• Assisting operators in various processing operations: racking, blending, additions, pumpovers
• Assisting operators in running crush machinery
• Barrel related activities: moving barrels, filling, emptying, topping, additions, sanitation
• Always follow company safety rules and regulations, as well as, OSH safety standards to ensure a safe work environment for all employees
• Ensure all information required on work orders are completed and recorded accurately
Qualifications:
• Education: minimum HS diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Years of Experience: 6 months of related experience and/or training
• Able to follow written and verbal directions
• Can effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
• Basic math skills required
• Attention to detail and ability to follow through with assignments and projects
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a “team player”
• Available to work long hours, any shift and 6-7 days per week during Crush
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear effectively. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste and smell. The employee must frequently and safely climb a ladder while carrying some equipment. The employee must regularly lift and/or over up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds by moving pumps and equipment, moving barrels, lay and drag hose lines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to identify color coded hose and transfer lines.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with equipment operation, sanitation, sterilization and additions. The noise level in the work environment can/sill be loud with barrel repair and shaving during harvest.
