Summary of Position
The Sommelier for The Terrace Restaurant is responsible for maintaining the comprehensive wine program and menu that compliments the 5-star offerings of a luxury hotel. The focus of the role will be on the guest to ensure excellent wine service and guest experience. Additional responsibilities include ordering and stocking that are done comprehensively and efficiently, along with leading weekly wine education amongst the staff.
Roles and Responsibilities
Job duties include; although are not limited to:
- Perform, and guide excellent wine service for our guests. Including recommending, preparing and pairing wines by the bottle and by the glass.
- Work alongside Terrace General Manager and Food and Beverage Director to maintain the vision of the Wine & Beverage Program.
- Create programming to include special tastings, events and education.
- Monitor wine list designed to meet guest satisfaction and sales goals.
- Enhance the guest experience by being present on the restaurant floor to provide recommendations.
- Review inventory including invoice accuracy, pricing structures, POS programming, cost controls par levels maintained, appropriate ordering of quantities and the beverage physical inventory process.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors to ensure access to premier products and exclusive opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred. Sommelier certification required (CMS Certified or WSET level 2).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward/Stewardess, or similar role.
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in a luxury venue and/or craft cocktail program environment.
- Ability to create tasteful food and wine pairings in service for our guests.
- Demonstrate ability to relate to, communicate with and motivate employees to sustained high performance and quality levels.
- Extensive knowledge of classic and emerging wine regions, varieties and styles.
- Interest and knowledge of local vineyards and wineries in California and the USA.
- Understanding of the winemaking process.
- Excellent communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Move, bend, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Stand or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift
