JOB SUMMARY:

Spicy Vines is a small independent family-owned winery located in downtown Healdsburg. Our tasting room offers a classy, yet down-to-earth vibe where customers enjoy our world-class wines alongside food, wine cocktails and live music on Saturdays.

We are in search for a special Tasting Room Associate to join our team! Our ideal candidate is a sales and service-minded individual with a passion for wine and providing exceptional customer experiences. This is an exciting and dynamic position that requires general wine knowledge and the ability to authentically connect with customers.

The Tasting Room Associate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, especially during busy weekends and events. Candidates must be motivated self-starters and courteous team members who will proudly represent the quality of Spicy Vines wines, drive sales and fully leverage all that the brand has to offer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 ·       Greet, educate, serve and pour wine for guests in our tasting room.

·       Ensure all visitors receive a positive and memorable experience.

·       Communicate in a knowledgeable, professional and gracious manner to guests at all times.

·       Maintain a clean and tidy tasting room ensuring that all tables, seating areas and displays are sanitized and well maintained for service.

·       Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of Spicy Vines wines and winery.

·       Educate guests on wines, vineyards, winemaking practices and winery history.

·       Effectively communicate the structure and flavors of different wines, discuss their winemaking process and key viticultural influences such as vineyard, terroir and climate.

·       Promote and facilitate the sale of Spicy Vines wines and wine club memberships.

·       Achieve daily and weekly revenue and membership goals with a large focus on club conversion.

·       Clearly communicate all club options and structure to guests.

·       Accurately operate winery POS system.

·       Process and ship orders.

·       Attend all staff training meetings.

·       Perform all opening, closing and cleaning procedures.

·       Conduct moderate food preparation for tastings as needed.

·       Perform post tasting dish and glass washing and polishing duties.  

·       Efficiently schedule and manage tasting room reservations and walk-ins.

·       Ability to work in a fast-passed environment while being able to multi-task between front and back of the house.

·       Ensure the tasting menu is always up-to-date and clean copies are provided to customers.

·       Assist in the execution of winery events, including live music on Saturdays and club events.

·       Make cold calls and follow up calls to past visitors and current club members to sell wine.

·       Participate in educational visits to the winery’s production facility on Pine Mountain in Cloverdale.

·       Respond to telephone calls and emails.

·       Conduct outreach to local wineries to drive traffic to the tasting room.

·       Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.

·       Effectively multi-task between guest services and assigned duties.

·       Be a team player and able to work cooperatively with coworkers. 

·       Have first-hand knowledge, appreciation and passion for wine.

·       Exceptional customer service skills.

·       Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·       Able to represent the company in a professional manner while having fun.

·       Be engaging with customers and radiate a positive "can-do" energy at all times.

·       Have a love for people and passion for driving a positive customer experience.

·       Must have strong salesmanship skills.

·       Must be able to present, up-sell and cross-sell products in a non-hard-sell environment.

·       Must be able to accurately key information into our POS system.

·       Experience with wine industry related software is preferred.

·       Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word, social networking) is a plus.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

·       Stand, move and walk for extended periods.

·       Must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

·       Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel and crouch regularly.

·       Must be 21+ years of age.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

·       1-2+ years of tasting room or hospitality experience is preferred, but not required. 

·       High School Diploma or GED required.

·       Associates or bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university is preferred.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

·       This position is part-time, 2-4 days per week. Weekends required. Flexible weekdays.

·       Competitive hourly rate dependent on experience.
