Sustainability Coordinator (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, one of the largest privately-owned producers in California, crafts a full line of internationally recognized wines from its 3,688 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles, Monterey County, and the Napa Valley. Established in 1974 and with sales of more than one million cases annually, J. Lohr was one of the first vineyards and wineries to receive official certification of sustainability from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance in 2010.

We are seeking a motivated and talented individual to assist us in furthering our sustainability initiatives with the goal of improving the company’s overall health as well as that of our natural environment, through best practices as set forth by the CSWA. This is a full-time position with competitive benefits, and would be based out of either our San Jose, CA headquarters or our Paso Robles, CA facility.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Compliance and Certification:
• Collaborating with all department managers to supplement or expand our sustainability initiatives, coordinating common goals within the initiatives, and identifying and researching new opportunities.

• Analyzing and reporting on the effectiveness and results of sustainability projects.

• Organizing and coordinating results/reports for annual sustainability audits by the CSWA.

Recordkeeping
• Accurately maintaining sustainability filing systems and reporting procedures for facilities located in San Jose, Paso Robles and all J. Lohr vineyard properties.

• Recording minutes of quarterly sustainability committee meetings.

Communication:
• Public relations work with the marketing department and the sustainability chairperson.

• Point person in development of our local community outreach plan.

• Staying up to date with the rapidly changing field through publications, memberships, electronic services as well as formal and informal networks/education.

Company Wellness Program:
Partnering with the Human Resources Manager, the creation and implementation of a company wellness program, which will provide employees and their families with the tools to live healthier lifestyles.
Human Resources
Assisting our vineyard managers with various human resource issues, such as health insurance and workman’s comp.

Qualifications:

• BA/BS required, preferably with a degree in the field of environmental/sustainability management or agricultural sciences.

• Knowledge of sustainable business practices preferred.

• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

• Computer/presentation software skills include MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Demonstrable initiative, high energy, and superior organizational skills.

• Ability to take direction from more than one person, yet also a team player.

• Ability to effectively manage ongoing deadlines and balance shifting priorities.

• Some travel required between J. Lohr’s various company sites.

• Must have driving record acceptable to our insurance company.
