Alpha Omega is dedicated to mastering the craft of making bold, rich and structured Bordeaux varietals as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. We source from what we believe are the best vineyards in the Napa Valley such as Beckstoffer To Kalon, Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, Beckstoffer Georges III and the Stagecoach Vineyard contributing to our Cabernet Sauvignons. Our team also works with vineyard-designate quality vineyards for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Carneros, Atlas Peak and Sonoma Coast AVAs.
We are seeking a laboratory intern to help the team achieve its goals in its winemaking operations. The right candidate will be motivated, a self-starter, efficient, looking forward to working long-hours, work well in a fast-paced atmosphere and be excited to have fun and build camaraderie.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about the winemaking and laboratory techniques as well as day-to-day procedures of a high-end winery. Additionally, this intern will be experiencing the differences between different winemaking techniques on a daily basis since every fermentation in the cellar will be coming into the lab regularly.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Learning the work-flow of Alpha Omega Winery
- Running Brix/pH/TA on maturity samples
- Learning and running the Glories Method for extractability
- Learning and running the Adams Assay for phenolic development
- Learning and running automated lab equipment such as an Admeo Y25, Alcolyzer and Steroglass Titrex.
- Helping the team with sampling lots for primary and secondary fermentation after harvest.
- Assessing the accuracy of numbers for free anthocyanin, bound anthocyanin, protein-precipitable tannin, total phenolics, Glucose-Fructose, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid, pH, TA, Amino Nitrogen, Ammonia, etc…
