Bottling Line Mechanic (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

FUNCTION: The Bottling Line Mechanic is responsible for providing efficient and professional maintenance of the equipment and facilities needed in the production of J. Lohr wines, while promoting a team-oriented environment within the department and company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. SAFETY: Maintains a high level of safety awareness with all staff through ongoing meetings and training. Responsible for adherence to all safety procedures and the compilation of all safety related information. Works with Safety Coordinator to help correct safety related issues. 
2. MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS: Works with Bottling Supervisor to develop weekly and daily work schedules for repairs and preventive maintenance operations. Coordinates with outside services and vendor maintenance as needed.
3. REPAIR OPERATIONS: Performs bottling equipment repairs, modifications and preventive maintenance on equipment, fixtures and systems. Troubleshoots breakdowns with appropriate personnel and sets priorities to repair needs. Participates in determining whether repairs should be made by outside services and whether items can be repaired or need to be replaced. Responsible for carrying out skilled level repairs on packaging equipment and conveyor belts as well as light plumbing and electrical in the most efficient and effective manner possible. 
4. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES: Participates in the implement and monitoring of a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance program for all bottling equipment throughout the winery. Ensures the proper record keeping of repairs performed and fills in the Preventive Maintenance logbooks. Assures the quality of maintenance work by following the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety procedures. 
5. INVENTORY: Monitors inventory control and timely acquisition of necessary equipment, chemicals, and supplies to alleviate excess inventories and/or outages.
6. TEAMWORK: Adheres to and supports company policies and decisions in a positive manner. Cooperates with personnel in other departments to ensure the best overall results for J. Lohr Winery.
7. OTHER DUTIES: As with all positions at J. Lohr Winery, other jobs or special projects may arise outside the realm of this job description. Doing other assignments or doing special projects on a fill-in basis is expected of every employee.


QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. •  A valid Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the Winery’s insurance carrier is required for this position. 
•  Knowledge of maintenance activities and responsibilities and an understanding of the role that maintenance activities play in the creation of quality wine are necessary.
•  Strong knowledge of bottling activities and responsibilities and an understanding of the role that these activities play in the creation of quality bottled product, including all production SOPs. 
•  Strong computer skills including proficiency in all MS Office applications in order to deliver and respond to detailed correspondence.
•  Strong communication skills are required in order to work effectively with a variety of people including temporary or seasonal staff.
•  Strong reading writing and mathematical skills and detail orientation are required to read work schedules, instructions, manuals and work orders.
•  Strong reasoning skills, judgment and problem-solving skills are required in order to respond effectively to changing situations, coordinate multiple activities; analyze and resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires the following levels of physical activity:
•  Extensive (2/3 of the time) standing, walking.
•  Moderate (1/3 of the time) bending, climbing, reaching below shoulder level; simple grasping and pulling/pushing with both hands.
•  Some (less than 1/3 of the time) sitting, squatting, reaching over shoulder level, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, fine manipulation with both hands.
•  Visual capabilities: close and distance, color, depth perception, peripheral vision and adjustment of focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position entails exposure to the following environmental conditions:
•  Drives automotive equipment.
•  Marked temperature and humidity changes; exposed to dust, fumes, and gases.
•  Noise level exposure: Requires Ear Protection.
•  Sanitary Environment: Requires Hairnet or Equivalent Head Coverage.
•  Broken Glass Exposure: Requires Eye and Hand Protection.
