JOB DESCRIPTION

The Regional Merchandise Manager (RMM), reports directly to the SVP of SWTFG. The RMM is accountable for the building and execution of Team and Division strategies in their region. The RMM works in partnership with the stores, delivering product knowledge and ensuring effective promotional execution. The RMM is responsible for maximizing Sales and Gross Margin (GM %), conversion of aged inventory, store renovations, building vendor relationships, local brand negotiations, and effective communication both within the division/group and with the Global Merchandising team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development
  • Build division and category strategy with the Global and local Team
  • Evaluate, react, and evolve SWTFG strategy proactively to align with business needs
  • Support execution of strategy, assortments, promotions, seasonal conversion, etc

Strategy Execution

  • Visit stores regularly
  • Communicate global strategy to the stores
  • Communicate inventory issues to Planner/Distributor that impact ability to execute strategy
  • Collaborate with store and global on floor space and productivity
  • Promotional execution
  • Input on Presentation Stock (PS) and prepare Plan-o-grams
  • Organize product knowledge training & brand review 

Category Management

  • Drive Sales and Spending
  • Maximize GM %
  • Maximize Key Drivers
  • Manage conversions and Aged Inventory/and delisted (D) skus
  • Rationalization of Store Profiles and Brand assortments

Key Items/Localization/Tasting

  • Work with store to display and follow up the most relevant assortment
  • KEY ITEMS: Align on the key items to be displayed in the store and streamline the assortment to make it store relevant
  • Localization: work with the merchants on new business opportunities to increase localization
  • Tasting/GWP: Responsible for coordinating tasting stock and GWP activations

Store Renovations/Floor Moves

  • Provide input to strategy and business plan for new locations
  • Understand impact of capital projects
  • Link to the Global Merchandising Team for merchandising decisions 

Communication

  • Maintain frequent communication with:
  • Each department of the respective category within the division
  • Corporate Planning & Merchandising Team(s)

Vendor Relationships

  • Plan vendor visits and manage relationships and communication
  • Brand Management
  • Negotiate payroll staffing rates
  • Brand Liaison on floor execution
  • Negotiate revenue generating transparency opportunities
  • Negotiate local promotional support

People Development

  • Support staff development
  • Apprentice to Master
  • Wine School, Whisky School, WSET 
  • Support Business Improvement Initiatives

Division Initiatives Execution

  • Loyal T/The Whisky Festival/Big Bang/Be-Spoke program
  • Facilitate marketing in home country (pre-departure, editorial, etc.)
  • Major Division Events – i.e. Chinese New Year/Oshogatsu /Golden Week/OBON / Global Marketing

Key Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • 5 years of retail operations or merchandising experience with
  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Regional and market leadership experience with merchandising and financial accountability.
  • Buying and inventory management experience.
  • PC experience with Microsoft office software such as Excel, Word and Outlook preferred.
