MacRostie Winery has been crafting fine wines since 1987 in beautiful Healdsburg, CA. MacRostie is known for a vineyard-driven style of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which the winemaking team captures by using a hands-on approach in the vineyard and small lot fermentations in the cellar. We also craft Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel for our Clockwise brand with a similar hands-on small-lot approach.

Harvest Cellar Intern Lead & Harvest Cellar Intern

For the 2021 harvest, we are seeking out experienced and talented individuals for cellar operations at our Healdsburg facility alongside the Cellar Master and winemaking team.  This individual will be tasked with running and/or participating in daily cellar operations, including forklift driving, receival and weighing of fruit, operating crush equipment, cap management, inoculations and additions, wine transfers, and many other cellar operations.  This individual will work closely with our permanent staff, and at times be asked to lead and/or participate in the cellar operations while the Cellar Master is not on site. 

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Sanitation of winery and all winery equipment           
  • Punch downs and/or pump overs of red fermentationsInoculations and additions to wine and/or juice           
  • Operation of crush equipment, pumps, and press   
  • Racking juice and wine                              
  • Filling, topping, and stirring barrels          
  • Forklift driving including bin unloading and dumping, barrel stacking, etc.  
  • Leading other interns when cellar master and winemaking team are not on site (Cellar Lead Position)

These daily tasks will be performed around a core of cleaning duties, preceded and followed by more cleaning; wash, rinse, repeat.


Qualifications/Requirements:

We are looking for people with a passion for wine and great enthusiasm for crafting wines of exceptional quality.  Prior harvest cellar experience, including crush operations and forklift driving are a must for the Cellar Lead position. Additional job requirements include a keen attention to detail, a sense of urgency when necessary, effective communication skills, dependability, ability to work well within a team, willingness to work hard, get dirty and wet, clean scrupulously, and having a positive attitude while doing so.

Essential Requirements:

  1. Works well in a team setting but able to work on tasks alone as well 
  2. Experience with cellar procedures
  3. Experience driving a forklift in a winery setting
  4. A strong attention to detail and ability to execute tasks in a timely manner
  5. Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
  6. Ability to work long hours at peak times (up to 12 hours a day and 6-7 days a week)
  7. Dependability to show up to work every day and complete the tasks assignedA basic knowledge and understanding of the winemaking process

Applicants should be prepared to work a variable schedule and extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. The estimated timeframe for this position is from August through the harvest season (typically end of October but could be later in the year depending on workload).
