Director of Accounting and Compliance
General Overview:
Under direction of the Exec. VP & CFO, the Director of Accounting and Compliance directly supervises staff in the performance of all compliance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and banking activities. They are responsible for the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Performs highly complex accounting activities, analyzes financial data, and prepares related accounting reports. Ensures compliance with federal, state, local ordinances, and company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and direction for all accounting activities and controls
- Provide timely and accurate reporting, analytics, and financial support for daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines and/or goals
- Manage and participate in the monthly close processes
- Completes financial statements to summarize and forecast the company's financial status
- Review and oversight of the borrowing base collateral submissions
- Review and ensure accurate, timely and efficient processing of all accounting transactions
- Ensures and maintains compliance with regulations and government entities
- Responsible for chart of accounts, including reviewing general ledger activity on a monthly basis to identify coding discrepancies
- Oversees internal and external audits
- Serves as company liaison for both internal and external audit, including: communicating, planning, and coordinating all review requirements
- Provides technical guidance and support pertaining to excise compliance, taxation, audit procedure and overview, fraud protection, and the creation and completion of required reporting
- Developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, including written guidance and implementation of software
- Promote a process improvement mindset, identify opportunities to automate/improve processes and partner with different teams to accomplish process improvement and simplification
- Planning, organizing and coordinating the bi-annual physical inventory process and year-end close process
- Ensuring successful completion of excise tax filings and government reporting
- Hiring, training and retaining competent accounting staff
- Prepare other ad-hoc financial and operational analyses on an as-needed basis
Qualifications:
- BS in Accounting required with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a field of accounting
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory/management experience required
- Master’s Degree, CPA or CMA Preferred
- NetSuite or similar ERP System Experience Preferred
- Proven experience in financial analysis and budgeting practices and procedures
- Strong analytical skills required with attention to detail and data integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Interpersonal, organizational, and prioritization skills are a must
- Effective and proven leadership and supervisory skills
- An ability to be flexible and adaptable is necessary
- Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and other web-based applications
- Experience with wineries, distillers, or distilled spirits is a bonus, but not required
- Public accounting experience is a bonus, but not required
- Experience with software and/or process implementation is a bonus, but not required
