Vineyard Maintenance Manager (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Job Summary:

Supervise and organize maintenance activities for a fleet of vineyard equipment at Trinchero vineyard farming operations.

Essential Functions:

Leadership: 

  • Facilitates the development of an empowered work team and mentors team members

  • Manages and implements the required training of team and ensures adherence to all policies, procedures and governmental regulations. 
  • Manages and implements career planning and personal development of staff.

  • Collaborates with other department leaders and works to solve problems
  • Responsible for the selection of top talent and on the job training for new hires and coaching for       top performance.

Communications:

  • Leads TFE Communications with weekly staff meetings
  • Effectively presents ideas and concepts to groups through presentations and use of media
  • Ensures smooth and effective shift turnovers
  • Provides timely communication to team regarding company and departmental updates, opportunities, events, etc.
  • Communicates effectively through email, phone or face-to-face.
  • Effectively presents topics to a group audience of direct reports, peers or upper management.

Safety Management:

  • Facilitates a safety culture of accountability and engagement
  • Ensures adherence to all TFE Safety Programs
  • Ensures all timely safety training, hazardous awareness and general housekeeping and documentation updated in LMS
  • Accountable for understanding and ensuring compliance with the Food and Quality Management System, including the ISO Food Safety & Quality Policy
  • Responsible for understanding Quality Management System related activities, including the quality policy and ISO awareness
  • Food Safety Responsibility: Report problems with the food safety management system to Manager
  • Owns and/or assists in designing sustainable systems to support a safe work environment

Administrative:

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office software; Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Creates Reports to quantify performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Able to facilitate groups in project execution and problem solving.
  • Manage time and attendance in an accurate and timely manner
  • Manage work schedules (ensures lunch and breaks)
  • Develops team metrics in People, Quality and Service, shares with his team and holds the team accountable.
  •  Assist with labor planning needs for the maintenance department and responsible for selection of top talent
  • Ensure management of work orders through the work order system
  • Interact with vendors and assist in the correct ordering of parts to support maintenance of equipment
  • Able to Develop yearly budgets and ensure adherence to that budget through the year
  • Ensure timely processing of invoices

Operations:

  • Manage the training, advancement, safety and evaluation of the maintenance team
  • Continuously improve processes within the maintenance function to drive out waste and improve the work
  • Adherence and understanding of Federal and State Food Safety Standards as it applies to harvesting and transport of grapes for wine.
  • Supervise and direct the daily work of the maintenance team in all activities
  • Ensure effective scheduling of work orders and job assignments for the maintenance crew
  • Training: Manages training and development of the employees through identification of training needs and follow-through to accomplish desired results
  • Complete special projects as directed
  • Oversee maintenance of vineyard equipment, utilities, vehicles, and buildings
  • Plan jobs, projects and equipment for repair and maintenance
  • Supervise implementation of new equipment

Qualifications:

  • Education: Technical or College degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Years of Experience: 5 or more years previous experience in equipment maintenance supervision of staff
  • Strong agricultural equipment knowledge preferred
  • Language: Bi-lingual preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to maintain a clean DMV record
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to communicate effectively and work well with other employees, be a team player.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through with projects
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proactive in addressing problems for positive results
  • Process oriented with focus on continuous improvement
  • Work independently without Supervision, as well as part of large groups and teams.
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel) to write reports
  • Accurately carry out written and verbal instructions
  • Proven track record of working safe, efficient and in cooperative manner
  • Stay current with changes in the maintenance procedures and techniques
  • Support and model all Company policies and procedures
  • Background in fabrication, welding, electrical, plumbing, auto repair and/or other related mechanical fields preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate to heavy physical work
  • Work site may be any one of Trinchero Family Estates’ facilities
  • Standing for long periods of time (9 hours per day)
  • Must comply with all safety equipment requirements including ear plugs and safety glasses
  • Exposure to various chemicals in production areas
  • Exposure to machinery, forklifts and related production equipment
  • Long and irregular hours during peak periods or on various shifts (this includes some night shifts during harvest)
  • Extensive walking and lifting of up to 55 pounds
  • Some weekends are required
