Alpha Omega Winery is seeking a Lab Intern to be an invaluable part of our winemaking team. This position will work closely with our Lab Assistant to perform most of the operations involved in producing analyses. This will include, but not be limited to, ample amounts of sampling. The position will start late-August or Early-September and run until late winter or early spring depending on the availability of work. This could be an ideal position for someone looking to book-end an early-season harvest such as a sparkling wine harvest.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Collect copious amounts of samples, from both tanks and barrel during and after fermentation
- Prepare samples for analysis via centrifuge, filtration, various maceration techniques and other means
- Work with and train temporary workers when more help is needed
- Hours expected=45/wk late season, 65-75/wk harvest
- Assist with blend sessions & small winery projects as needed (cellarwork may be required)
- Perform calibration and analysis using:
Automated Spectrometer (GF, ML, VA, YAN, etc)
Alcolyzer (ALCOHOL)
Ripper and A/O (FSO2 and TSO2)
Auto-Titrator (pH and TA)
Densitometer (Brix)

- A self-motivated person who takes pride in their work

- Willingness to do work "out of the box" and differently than industry standards
- Someone that is inquisitive and asks questions to get the job done correctly
- A quick learner that can fully master the equipment in the laboratory
- Someone able to multitask and remain calm in high stress/busy situations
- Must be able to go with the flow when daily goals change.
Qualifications:
- Previous laboratory experience preferred
- Basic understanding of Wine Chemistry
- Understanding of the winemaking process in a quality-focused atmosphere
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Be able to lift 50 lbs
- Be able to stand for 10 hours and climb steep/narrow ladders regularly
