Field Manager Opportunities – Be our Next Rookie

A rookie is a person new to a profession or in his or her first year of a sport. At Fetzer Vineyards, we are assembling the first inaugural team of Field Managers in our company’s history. As one of our first round draft picks, you will join a small and focused team in one of the following key locations:

Greater San Francisco Bay Area, California

Metro Los Angeles/Orange County, California

Greater Houston, Texas

Champion Your Winning Attitude:

•Reporting to the Director and working closely with the Divisional Vice President, you will be developed and coached by individuals who are fun, smart, and know the wine industry.

•You’ll dutifully be in the field in your assigned territory five days a week (Monday through Friday) spending over 90% of your time in retail (grocery, independent liquor stores, drug, etc.) accounts.

•Your eye for detail and ability to follow through will be exercised as you carefully assess store layout, product and POS placements, and ensure the execution of deliverables and programs in key accounts. This entails working influentially and collaboratively with Store level management and personnel and third party distributors. Through communication and persuasive selling, you will ensure our brands are effectively merchandised, prominently displayed, and that our standards are perfectly executed within the store. This includes the use of current point of sale marketing materials, promotional displays, and oversight of shelf space, case stacks, and end caps in specified accounts.

•You’re always up for the challenge of outperforming expectations and pushing past average.

•Our green values and sustainability practices align with yours. While you could work for any company, why not work for one that has surpassed high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

•You recognize the “golden ticket” opportunity here. Most other wine suppliers aren’t hiring entry level talent or those new to the industry. We’re not recruiting to have you sit on the sidelines. We’re looking to build the bench and the potential exists for advancement to District Manager or other roles.

•Your initial training will include coming to the California wine country where you and your peers will be immersed in extensive training on wine varietals, our brands, retail merchandising, and more. At our facilities, you'll tour and interact with Sales, Brand Managers, Winemaking, Vineyard, and Production teams.

•You’ll be working smart and hard in the field with an everyday is game day attitude. You’ll partner closely with our local Sales and National Accounts teams and third party Distributor Sales teams. In addition, you will grow relationships and trust with Store Managers and Wine Stewards in assigned accounts.

The Person:

Whether you’ve competed in sports or business, supported yourself through school, or spent numerous hours volunteering for a good cause, you know how to apply yourself and work hard. You are competitive by nature and don’t wake up to give up. No matter what, you stay positive and self-motivated; keep working hard; even when you hit obstacles. Even great athletes hit the occasional slump but like them, you look for the cause of a slump and then find a solution.

While you don’t need to know wine, you do need to know how to effectively ambassador a company’s values and message. This means learning our brands, programs, marketing campaigns, and key decision makers in your assigned accounts. You’ve probably worked with customers before and have developed good listening and problem solving skills. If you are into food, wine, pairings, that’s a bonus.

Desired Skills and Experience:

•Bachelor or Associates Degree (completed or in progress) from an accredited college with a minimum 6 months to one year customer focused experience, or equivalent education/experience combination.

•Strong verbal and written communicator who can articulate clear images and messages through words, public speaking and presentation skills.

•Strong follow through and attention to detail and ability to execute according to plan.

•Excellent interpersonal skills with the highest level of integrity, and ability to manage complex customer relationships.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

•Basic math and computer skills.

•Valid driver’s license, vehicle, proof of registration and insurance required. Acceptable driving record.

•Ability to travel within the field 90% of the time, visiting accounts and in stores.

•Must be at least 21 years of age.

Preferred Requirements:

•Prior experience in a customer facing role within retail or food and beverage/hospitality industry, desirable.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
