The Cost Accountant is responsible for all aspects of bulk wine inventory accounting including contract deposits tracking, payments forecasting, maintenance of the agreements/PO system, bulk cost data analysis, bulk cost reporting and planning and other ad-hoc projects, as requested. This person reports into the VP Accounting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and track bulk wine agreements in JDE Manufacturing module
- Monthly reporting of grape and bulk wine contracts and relevant cash deposits and payments
- Prepare and maintain long term cash forecast for bulk wine and grape purchases
- Maintain month end inventory reconciliations for grapes, bulk wine and barrels at all locations
- Tracking of bulk wine storage costs according to contracts
- Responsible for monthly bulk wine reporting to the insurance company and insuring proper coverage exists by storage location
- Provide accounting support to the Head of Production and winemakers as needed
- Analyze and communicate bulk wine cost variances per production bottling
- Coordinate with Cost Accounting Analyst to report monthly production costs and variance analysis to management
- Coordinate with Cost Accounting Analyst to develop annual budgeted costs for production SKUs
- Oversee compliance administration activities to ensure adherence to regulatory and tax requirements (e.g., wine grower taxes, excise taxes, sales/use taxes); prepare and file required tax returns and other reports monthly, quarterly, and annually; compile financial information for external tax preparers
- Special Projects as requested
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 3 -5 years manufacturing experience desired, previous winery accounting experience is highly desirable, particularly in a cost accounting capacity
- Advanced competency in accounting principles; knowledge of GAAP
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of Winery Software systems, e.g., VinX2 or other comparable winery tracking system
Other Skills and Abilities: This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, the ability to work well in cross-functional teams, thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the ability to work independently. Advanced computer skills are a necessity, specifically MS Excel.
