Fess Parker Winery in Los Olivos, CA is a family owned producer of highly acclaimed wines with a focus on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Rhone varietals. Fruit is sourced from our 110 acre estate vineyard as well as some of the most coveted sites throughout Santa Barbara County. Our production also includes the Rhone focused brand Epiphany Cellars and Méthode Champenoise label Fesstivity.
Under the supervision of the Winemaker and Associate Winemaker, the Enologist position is responsible for the management of the laboratory and laboratory procedures. Tasks include:
• Accurately perform and document routine analysis on juice, must, and wine including:
o pH, TA, VA, Alcohol, Free SO2, Brix
o Malic acid, glu/fru, Ammonia and NOPA by Spectrophotometry
o Benchtop trials
• Input all laboratory analysis into Blend
• Prepare and standardize laboratory chemicals
• Facilitate wine production by maintaining accurate up to date analytical and production records
• Optimize utilization of laboratory resources by ensuring essential stock items are on hand and necessary equipment is maintained to a functional operation
• Report any problems as soon as they arise to winemakers
• Maintain exemplary laboratory staff behavior and laboratory cleanliness
• Perform bottling QC in a timely and precise fashion
• Communicate with bottling line operator and production manager to ensure bottling control measures are enforced
• Report daily harvest juice and wine analysis to winemakers
• Assist with cork QA & QC
• Maintain and Document laboratory SOPs
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Chemistry, Enology or related field
• Minimum two years experience in a winery lab
• Experience with practical and technical aspects of the winemaking procedure
• High standard of quality with acute attention to detail
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
