On-Premise Market Manager (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Rodney Strong Vineyards is a family owned company that farms 15 estate vineyards and crafts wines from Sonoma County’s finest appellations – Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, and Sonoma Coast. The winery was founded in 1959 by Sonoma County wine pioneer Rodney D. Strong as the 13th bonded winery in the county. It was purchased by the Klein family, a third generation California farming family, in 1989. The company aspires to conserve and protect the environment in all its operations through sustainable practices, solar power, and fish friendly farming.

The On-Premise Market Manager will be responsible for managing and achieving On-Premise Channel development goals within Northern California, specifically channel volume, key account growth and new business development with the luxury wines in the portfolio. This individual will achieve market objectives by working independently and with our territory distributor, optimizing distributor execution through programming, education and exceeding “fair share” of mind. 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
- Develop and cultivate On-Premise Channel Development goals, monthly leading indicator expectations and On-Premise programming calendar with Area Sales Director 
-Analyze distributor & RSWE monthly reporting to generate insights and suggested actions 
-Clearly communicate and review RSWE goals, market objectives, programs and performance versus budget with appropriate distributor personnel on a monthly basis 
-Document and recap all meetings with distributor(s); be proactive in suggesting solutions and ideas to correct any problems 
-Execute timely follow up after presentations and distributor field work 
-Responsible for Distributor staff training and education 
-Work independently as well as with the territory distributor Division Directors, Managers and Sales Representatives 
-Maintain established relationships with a specific group of key accounts, and identify new opportunities within the territory 
-Field work: develop unique, creative and impactful presentations and conduct tastings to existing accounts, target accounts and distributor personnel 
-Responsible for On-Premise staff training and education to ensure servers feel comfortable and confident recommending and selling RSWE wines 
-Communicate to supervisor all relative business including weekly call reports, monthly planning calendars, target account development, any problem areas, etc. 
-Adhere to all assigned budgets, including market support and travel & entertainment. 
-Participate in all On-Premise team activities 
-Implement creative ways to use social media, trade marketing/LMF budgets to gain a lead on the competition 
-Coordinate Winemaker travel to utilize time in the market for the best ROI 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 
-Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university OR four years related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience 
-Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) is a big plus 
-Two or more years’ experience in the wine industry, preferably with wine wholesaler and supplier; previous experience in the territory preferred along with strong On-Premise selling experience and two to three years restaurant related experience 
-Solid performance record of volume and profit plan achievement 
-Proven system of identifying new business, developing forecasts, setting distributor objectives and monitoring performance 
-Proven negotiation skills and territory sales management experience 
-Effective communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiating skills 
-Strong business acumen, analytical and fact based selling skills 
-Proficiency in MS Office and well versed in the use of relevant syndicated data is a must 
-Must have a current valid driver’s license and clean driving record 
-Flexible schedule for evening and weekend appointments 
-Must be able to lift a 9L (or 45 lbs.) case of wine
