Auction & Library Wines Buyer (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

Wine retailer K&L Wine Merchants (www.klwines.com) is seeking a full-time buyer in our Auction & Library Wines department. We’re looking for someone who has past experience with project management and sales, preferably with high-end clientele. 

This position will be interacting with domestic and international private wine collectors in order to purchase or consign their bottles for Auction. The ability to conduct business in a highly professional & confident manner is required. Please note: This is not a sales position on our retail sales floor. This is an office-based position located at our fulfillment center in San Carlos. 

Responsibilities Include:
•  Developing and Maintaining strong relationships with private collectors, including:
- Walking collectors through the process of either a direct purchase or auction consignment and helping to guide them in the appropriate direction
- Presenting offers to buy and/or auction collections (success rate of closing these "deals" will be monitored closely) 
•  Researching and cataloguing the marketplace values for wine and developing market knowledge
•  Keeping well informed about other auction houses and their programs, commission rates, etc.
•  Project managing large purchases or consignments, including overseeing the inspection, photography, customer payment and organization of inventory 
•  Working with several custom software programs to monitor inventory for auction and retail
•  Assisting customers with placing bids or organizing shipments of wine, as well as resolving customer complaints
•  Working closely with K&L employees in the stores to coordinate customer wine drop-offs and transfers
•  Developing an expertise in bottle inspection and authentication 
•  Coordinating the shipment of wines from non-local sellers 

Required Skills:

•  Acute attention to detail
•  Strong verbal and written communication skills 
•  Strong Internet researching skills
•  Strong Excel and computer skills 
•  Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and keep track of large amounts of data
•  Good Int'l and Domestic wine knowledge (Old and Rare wine knowledge a plus)
•  Ability to commute to San Carlos 
•  Ability to lift 40lbs repeatedly

Strong preference for candidates with experience in wine sales, auction and import experience, as well as wine identification, inventory, and appraisal experience.
