Jason Pahlmeyer planted Bordeaux clones high atop Atlas Peak in 1981, and launched the “California Mouton” Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red in 1986. We’ve been producing a variety of luxury wines ever since to great critical acclaim. We couldn’t achieve such acclaim without a superior Winemaking team. To this end, the Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Cellar now seeks an exceptional Cellar Master. The Cellar Master position is critical to the wine making team, and we seek a successful, experienced and energized candidate to lead our cellar.
Position Summary
This position is accountable for the safe execution of all cellar activities, including grape processing, fermentation management, wine movement and blending, empty and full barrel management, additions and stabilization, and comprehensive wine stewardship through bottling, facilities and equipment maintenance.
Major Responsibilities
Safety Captain for the Production team by creating safety procedures, representing the winery at safety meetings and ensuring compliance to all safety requirements.
Safeguard wine production under the highest level of quality with impeccable attention to detail.
Lead, mentor and inspire our full-time and seasonal team.
Oversee all aspects of equipment and materials maintenance.
Manage bottling preparation, bottling execution and post-bottling EOR inventory.
Required Experience
Minimum of five years of cellar work experience.
Experienced managing teams of more than eight people.
Excellent forklift driving skills.
Desired Personal Skills
Outstanding communication skills.
Ability to train in all winemaking procedures.
Exceptional ability to plan and execute projects, prioritize and delegate tasks, manage time requirements and timely task completion, continual focus on accuracy and meticulous detail, verification and follow-up of instruction.
Proficient computer skills including Excel, Word and Winery data tracking software.
Calm and competent leadership under deadline pressure.
