Grgich Hills Estate has an opening for GENERAL MANAGER:

We are looking for a highly qualified individual with 10+ years’ experience in Winery Business Management.  Bachelor’s degree in business management required.

This individual must have proven success in growing family business by implementing strategic marketing plans for future growth and capitalizing upon opportunities for growth and profitability.

Must be willing to do your best every day.

The General Manager oversees all winery operations and activities to ensure effective and profitable operation.  Leads company-wide operations including wine making, sales process and ensure that all functions are performed in a cost effective manner consistent with established operations, procedures and vision.

This professional will develop an effective program to expand the marketing, sales and distribution of our ultra-premium wine brand.  This is a roll-up your sleeves and get it done position for a highly qualified individual looking for a long term opportunity with an iconic winery/vineyard.

Position requirements:

  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic vision, understand the big picture and also have the ability to work at detail levels

  • Build and expand the image of the brand consistent with the exceptional quality of the wines & vineyards.

  • Strong leadership abilities; demonstrated proficiency in manager development and growth through mentoring.  Inspire, coach and lead by example; be goal oriented and quality focused.

  • Responsible for enforcing company policies, ensuring employees are accountable in their tasks.

  • Proven ability to increase efficiency and improve the quality of performance in all areas.

  • Directs and coordinates the activities of personnel within multiple projects, ensuring projects progress on schedule and within budget.

  • Proven ability to successfully implement change and a desirable company culture

  • Strong financial background to include ability to create budgets, dissect company financial statements, inventory understanding and a corporate tax understanding.

  • Experience and familiarity in working in a family owned company. Ability to work with owners in a close family environment.

  • Excellent listening skills, a positive optimistic attitude, treating people respectfully/professionally, and being open to constructive criticism.

  • Ability to integrate well into existing team.

  • Excellent understanding and experience in all areas of winery/vineyard.

  • Responsible for attaining near and long term operational, sales and return on investment goals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management, time management skills and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to represent the winery at various events – trade, consumer, suppliers and vintners.

  • Demonstrated ability to increase overall profitability.
  • Assists the President and Vice Presidents in strategic goals and direction and attends all BOD meetings.
  • Has a good understanding of hospitality.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to express quantitative results clearly, concisely and effectively; ability to summarize & effectively explain complex information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Power Point and Excel.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum required education: Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in family owned and operated business.
  • Extensive experience in wine industry business management.
  • Keeping the vision as established by leading all activities at the winery including but not limited to:
    • Creating the environment to ensure delivering great guest experiences.
    • Production of high quality wine
    • Inventory control
    • Improving systems and controls
    • Safety, facilities and maintenance
    • Tasting Room and Wine Club
    • Events  
    • Marketing and Branding
  • Mentor, encourage and create an environment for managers to be successful within their departments in order to produce the ultimate results.
  • Assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations.
  • Keep up to date on overall activities of the management team, identify problem areas and take corrective action.
  • Identify, document and implement opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Analyzes and reports financial data regularly to the President and Vice Presidents.  Performs financial analysis for all aspects of production, distribution, hospitality, including but not limited to gross margin analysis, labor and overhead costs analysis. Assists departmental managers in budgetary development & implementation and preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
