Assistant Brewer (3rd Shift) (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing fermentation vessels while simultaneously managing ancillary aspects of wort production, cellar work and area cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Rinse, vent and CIP stainless steel unitanks.
  • Proper use of PPE and participation in company chemical training and safety seminars.
  • Perform chemical titrations and ATP swabs to ensure effective cleaning.
  • Clean out-of-place (COP) man-ways, racking ports and tank top assemblies.
  • Follow company SOP’s and respond to out of specification parameters.
  • Weigh out precise quantities of various raw materials and deliver into sub-containers.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of the cellars and brewhouses, including cleaning sinks & soaker tubs, outsides of brewing vessels, floors and walls, promptly sweeping up spilt grain and hops and proper storage of hoses, pump carts, clamps and other brewery equipment.
  • Manage and execute required daily yeast and cold trub removals.
  • Prepare, stage and execute daily requirement of dry hopping.
  • Prepare, fill and transfer beer to and from wooden barrels and blends the resulting oak flavor (similar to wine production).

What we're lookin' for:

  • Must be willing to work varying and flexible schedules as well as weekends and evenings as needed. 
  • Strong understanding and passionate interest in trends in production and flavors in the craft beer industry and the methods of their application in the Lagunitas brewhouse.
  • Strong knowledge of the brewing process and the industrial hazards associated with professional brewing.
  • Ability to follow all company SOP’s and work with little or no supervision once fully trained.
  • Strong working knowledge of CIP loops, dead-ends, cleaning and sanitizing principles, methods and the proper care and use of brewery vessels.
  • Must understand clean-out-of-place (COP) principles and grasp environmental hygiene hazards.
  • Punctual, reliable and able to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to multitask.
  • Excellent organization, time management and problem solving skills; works well under pressure.
  • Must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment and manage competing demands.
  • Forklift/pallet jack proficiency required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. repeatedly and move 165 lbs.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and work in tight spaces.
  • Ability to manipulate tri-clamps, pull and figure eight stack hoses up to 2.5’ diameter and 100 feet long.
  • Tolerate outside summer/winter temperature and inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (up to 10 hours).
