Delicato Family Vineyards has an immediate career opportunity for a Transactions Paralegal with significant transactional experience, including contracts and trademark expertise, working in our Napa office.

Position Summary: The Transactions Paralegal will have at least 3 years’ experience to support legal and business services functions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a growing family-owned and operated winery. Assist legal department to develop, support, and maintain contract management and knowledge management systems, policies, and processes. Manage trademark prosecution, monitoring, and enforcement, including registrations, renewals, availability searches, infringement enforcement, assignments, maintenance, and title ownership, as well as copyright and domain name matters. Administrative support to the Legal Department and other matters as assigned. Good communication skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In consultation with the General Counsel and other members of the business:

  • Support Legal and Compliance with the development, maintenance, and support of contract lifecycles
  • Assist the General Counsel in evaluating effectiveness of contract review policies
  • Provide general assistance with overall contract lifecycle management
  • Assist the General Counsel and cross-functional team in reviewing, developing, evaluating, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive knowledge management program, including document management and retention and e-discovery
  • Overall trademark portfolio management
  • Work with outside resources to conduct and review preliminary screening on the USPTO and other databases and information sources, knowledge of docketing requirements and USPTO databases
  • Electronic filing of applications, maintenance documents, and Office Action responses
  • Familiarity with oppositions and TTAB proceedings
  • Performing domain name registrations and reconciling disputes
  • Corresponding and coordinating with foreign associates regarding prosecution and enforcement matters
  • Strong writing skills for extensive correspondence internally and with clients, foreign counsel, and USPTO
  • Administrative support, including filing, word processing, expense reconciliation, CLE tracking, and travel planning and assistance

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this position successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

  • Knowledge of trademark law; thorough understanding of USPTO databases and filing requirements and international trademark filing and maintenance requirements.
  • Knowledge of how to work with the USPTO to achieve goals and resolve issues in a timely fashion.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a trademark paralegal in a law firm, or in-house legal department.
  • Knowledge of contract work flows and lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of contract terms and general familiarity with legal nomenclature.
  • Experience supporting senior executives.
  • Attention to detail, including ability to assess and respond to underlying issues and implications.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, but also be a team player to assist where needed.
  • Certificate of completion of a paralegal program meeting California paralegal program requirements or equivalent experience.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Proficient in desktop application (MS preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills. Works effectively with numbers, spreadsheets and detail.

Language Skills:

Ability to read/analyze reports, trade journals, and brand related materials. Capable of writing/creating reports, business correspondence, and presentations. Aptitude in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Abilities:

Proficiency in solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Experience: Wine Industry experience. Reading, analyzing, and interpreting legal documents. Skilled in writing ordinary business and legal correspondence. Desire to improve skillset in the legal field.

Knowledge: Knowledge of legal contract terminology and contract management experience.
