Delicato Family Vineyards has an immediate career opportunity for a Director, Hospitality and Retail Sales position located at our Black Stallion Estate Winery, Napa CA.

Position Summary:

Acting autonomously and as part of a larger cross-functional team, this position is accountable for the productivity, sales, continuous improvement, and success of the Black Stallion Estate Winery hospitality and retail operations.   Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President Marketing, this position is responsible for the oversight and direction of all aspects of the Tasting Room, Wine Club, Direct to Consumer Sales, Hospitality, and Special Event activities through management level staff and sole contributors to optimize revenue stream.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands, communicates, and shares Company vision throughout division/organization and provides cross-functional perspective, direction, and support
  • Provides leadership and personal support; coaches, guides, nurtures and develops the right people; “walk the talk”
  • Drives Company focus, manages culture, encourages strong work ethic, and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops group and individual performance plans in alignment with Company goals and objectives; communicates clearly defined individual and group objectives; maintains level of productivity in unit
  • Trains employees to do their job; sets standards for work performance
  • Monitors performance and provides feedback to direct reports through formal and informal performance feedback; regularly communicates with staff to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, recommends termination actions
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment
  • Prepares and monitors department budget
  • Responsible for proper manpower planning
  • Optimizes revenue stream in all functional areas; Tasting Room (wine and merchandise sales), Wine Club, Direct to Consumer Sales, and Special Events
  • Works with DFV’s internal BSEW brand manager to ensure that the Tasting Room experience is brand aligned with national activities to support overall brand identity
  • Establishes protocol to secure inventory and cash
  • Stays abreast of the competitive environment and takes action  to ensure we have the right product, pricing and programs in place
  • Creates a memorable experience for visitors and guests that promotes the Company image and sales
  • Acts as liaison with vendors, customers, regulatory agencies, contractors, etc. for various functions not located at BSEW as needed; HR, Compliance, Maintenance/Construction, PR, etc.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and housekeeping for buildings and two guest houses (365 days a year) to ensure the property shows impeccably and is for ready for use at all times
  • Creates forecasts and develops annual sales goals and objectives in alignment with the Company’s strategic direction
  • Oversees winery advertising by managing advertisement vendor, contracts, and payment schedules; develops advertising budget with input from department managers and tracks results to evaluate its effectiveness
  • Leverages social media and networking tools to help increase consumer traffic and stimulate direct sales
  • Oversees the BSEW website to uphold quality standards; ensures right products and image are displayed
  • Acts as liaison and represents BSEW within the Napa community in support of company PR initiatives

Education:

  • BA degree with emphasis in Business Administration, Marketing, related field or equivalent experience required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in the industry, in a similar capacity, with demonstrated leadership and management capability

Knowledge:

  • Exceptional wine/market knowledge and experience with the sale of luxury wines, hospitality and events, wine club, and tasting room oversight/management
  • Must be able to use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; can see hidden problems; looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at first answers
  • Ability to plan difficult tasks and projects by setting goals and objectives; breaks down work into process steps; develops schedules and tasks/people assignment; measures performance against goals; evaluates results
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, presentation, customer service, organizational, and merchandising skills are necessary to be successful
  • Comprehensive understanding of retail sales, events planning, wine tasting, social media/networking, viticulture, winemaking, and wine marketing
  • Requires strong PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, and Email) along with the ability to navigate in the Internet/Intranet environments
  • Must have an acceptable driving history and possess the ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to make good decisions in a timely manner based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment
  • Creativity and entrepreneurism
