Position Summary:

Responsible for performing professional accounting functions, including providing specialized and general financial analysis for Folio Fine Wine Partners and The Winery of Napa Valley. The Controller will manage the corporate accounting systems in an effective and efficient manner, ensuring that financial information is timely, accurate and complete. Position reports to CFO.

The professional responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Critical Tasks:

Corporate Accounting, Month End Close & Reporting (36%)

• Ensure compliance with GAAP accounting principles and policies.

• Manage and participate in month end close, including maintaining general ledger, sub-ledgers.

• Manage the Advertising & Promotion reimbursement process with suppliers

• Provide Concur accounting support to AP staff.

• Various report requirements - operational staff and government entities, including various tax compliance issues.

• Assist with monthly and quarterly cash flow projections.

Standard Costs (36%)

• Build purchased import and domestic standard costs.

• Build domestically produced standard costs.

• Perform regular inventory turns analysis.

• Reconcile inventory GL accounts.

• Maintain accurate and timely files for domestic wine and grape purchases and production.

Leadership, Management and Problem Solving (15%)

• Assist in the development of continuous improvement of accounting systems, methods, procedures and controls.

• Provide leadership and support for the finance and operations teams.

• Lead and manage 3 direct reports: AP Specialist, Accounting Clerk, GL Accountant

Audit and Asset Protection (10%)

• Balance Sheet reconciliations and fixed asset register.

• Physical inventories and analysis.

• Process analysis and procedure development.

• Advise, establish and maintain the integrity of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

• Assist with annual internal and external audits and support for tax filings.

• Payroll and benefits reconciliation.

Non-Critical Tasks:

Other Administrative Duties (3%)

• Filing and maintaining proper records per company and regulatory requirements.

• Obtaining information to complete tasks.

• Compliance support.

Professional Requirements: 

Education/Experience: BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field. 4-5 years experience in general ledger accounting in the wine industry. Understanding of accounting theory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 

Skills: Strong demonstrated leadership and team process skills. Excellent analytical, problem solving and organization skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and delegate tasks as appropriate. Strong customer service skills with the ability to work successfully in partnership with financial and operations staff at all levels. Project management expertise, including the coordination and monitoring of projects in process, efficient multi-tasking. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Superior Excel (including pivot tables & V-Lookup) and Word skills. Strong analytical skills

Knowledge: Accounting theory and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of external financial reporting requirements. CPA preferred but not required. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Dynamics (Navision) preferred.
