Delicato Family Vineyards (DFV Wines) has an immediate career opportunity for a Viticulturist Field Representative at our Manteca location.

Position Summary: Acting on own initiative, the Viticulture Field Representative is primarily responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining policies, procedures and quality objectives for the wine grape growing process. Accountable for providing viticulture information necessary for grape assessments. Oversees personnel at harvest for field sampling and makes technical recommendations to growers so quality and supply objectives are met.
Duties/Essential Functions:
- Ensures appropriate record keeping and data management as it relates to vineyard data, viticulture data, processing reports and schedules to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Uses GPS mapping software to develop systems for vineyard identification and assessment.
- Oversees the grape samplers through instruction, supervision, and route development, comparing samples to delivered fruit, to develop accurate sampling information.
- Develops a schedule that will allow time for grower interaction year round with an emphasis on improving grape quality and cultural practices.
- Assists growers in harvest logistics for each grower, transportation requirements, delivery date and time, and any other factors that could affect delivery.
- Completes vineyard assessment for all contracted vineyards for annual review.
- Tours vineyards with Winemakers, helping with the vineyard and grape quality assessment; develops a harvest priority list based on program, quality, and maturity.
- Works with Winemakers to develop Winemaking program quality standards.
- Develops a multi-year harvest history to help with preharvest scheduling of the winery.
- Manages achievement of project goals, objectives, and timelines.
- Maintains an open line of communication with all organizational groups, ensuring an effective partnership between the company and its growers (with a commitment to cultivate long lasting grower relationships).
- Assists in scheduling, delivery of fruit to internal and external processing facilities.
- Serves as Delicato Representative at local Grower functions, meetings, and Commission.
- Participates in the development and review of procedures that pertain to specific job functions.
- Provide accurate administrative/clerical support as needed, i.e. word processing, filing, phone, email, report maintenance, and calendar coordination.
Position Requirements:
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Viticulture, Enology, Food Science, or Related Field
Experience: At least five years experience in related field. Excellent management and communication skills. Must be detail and multi-task oriented. Proficient in the use of MS Office based environment, (Word, Outlook, Excel and other software applications).
Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of all processes related to grape procurement and grape growing with a solid understanding of winemaking. Ability to operate under deadlines and high degree of pressure, self-directed and also willing to take direction. Winery knowledge is a plus. Must be able to work independently, and have the ability and willingness to work flexible hours, days, and shifts, including early morning hours and some weekends. Must be able to walk and travel through vineyards (uneven terrain).
