Position Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Skilled Line Technician – Packaging sets up, adjusts and operates automated packaging equipment, including but not limited to: interfacing with Program Logic Controls (PLC) and performing grade changes for various pieces of equipment.  In addition, this position is responsible for manual packaging tasks for the manual repack line and/or supporting Special Services Line as required.

Essential Duties:

  • Sets up and performs grade changes mechanically or through PLC interface to run a variety of bottle and box sizes and types according to production schedule
  • Troubleshoots electromechanical issues when they occur on the line including, but not limited to: diagnosis, calibration, maintenance and repair of equipment and electronic devices
  • Maintains situational awareness of processes on the line and make suggestions to increase yield and/or improve quality. Implements process improvements on the line stops, locks out/tags out or resets machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and reports malfunctions to supervisor or manager
  • Performs quality checks ensuring quality specifications are being met and notifies quality engineer and team supervisor in the event of a nonconformance
  • Communicates with other production staff members to ensure efficient production, appropriate output levels and to minimize set-up times
  • Monitors production line for malfunctions and adjusts machinery in accordance with policy and safety procedures to correct problems
  • Diligently follows safety, HACCP and ISO procedures and policies to safeguard personal and team member’s safety, packaging quality and company property
  • Assists in training employees as requested by Team Lead or Team Supervisor

Non Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for general housekeeping duties and maintaining a sanitary work area
  • Responsible for production reporting and/or quality checks
  • Performs any other general tasks, commensurate with skill level as assigned by Team Lead or Team Supervisor

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience and familiarity with production line principles is desirable. Forklift certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Change Management – Must be adaptable to a fast paced, shifting work environment; willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs
  • Detail Oriented – Must have attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results
  • Must also have mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of basic arithmetic and the ability to calculate percentages and convert between the metric, standard and imperial systems
  • Knowledge of methodical troubleshooting techniques
  • Continuous Improvement – Ability to work in a Lean CI team culture
