Position Summary:

This positions’ responsibilities include confirming user requirements, providing appropriate automated solutions, recognizing opportunities for technological improvement and optimization, support, and servicing various users throughout the company. The systems environment includes Windows, .NET, SAP, SQL and SharePoint.  Provides technical guidance during all phases of the development process.  Provides guidance during the design, development, implementation and enhancement of corporate applications including working with various Information Solutions (IS) teams and business partners.  Works with IS teams and vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies.

Develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas.  Works with IS Technical Operations Team to build physical and logical database environments.  Recommends and implements best practices in development of both the physical and logical databases and administration functions.  Develops a security scheme & backup procedures for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery as necessary.  Assists in the development of our database and all computing environments. 

Duties/Essential Job Functions:

  • Review and develop application requirements from Systems Analysts and/or Business Relationship Managers.
  • Design, implement and maintain complex programs and reports, using VB.Net, HTML and SQL Server.
  • Administer & monitor corporate databases environments for optimal performance.
  • Tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests.
  • Responding to database related alerts.
  • Actively investigate new tools and methods to support and improve computing environment.
  • Mentor junior team members by providing training and consulting on projects.
  • Work under minimal supervision.
  • Provide end users with progress reports regarding their requests.
  • Provide team members and management with ongoing status of all activities and issues.
  • Escalate issues to appropriate management by recognizing severity and impact on users and other systems.
  • Efficiently manages time for completing urgent requests.
  • Provide backup for team members where needed.
  • Ensure that all project activities are thoroughly documented and current.
  • Utilize version control applications to organize and secure all development projects.

Position Requirements:

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent training/experience, plus other computer course work and/or on-the-job training.
  • Solid foundation of analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum of three years experience with Visual Studio, VB, HTML and.Net tools.
  • Minimum of five years experience utilizing SQL Server (or equivalent): queries; stored procedures; functions; views, Reporting Services & Integration Services.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with database backup, database restores and recovery; including experience designing & implementing maintenance plans.
  • Working knowledge & management of indexes, indexing and statistics and general database/table health methodologies.
  • Minimum three years’ experience with structured development methodology.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in manufacturing and/or financial applications.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are an absolute must have.

Knowledge: 

 SQL Server database implementation & administration, Windows Operating Systems, client-server technology, and Visual Basic programming.  Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Project management skills; flexibility to respond to changing priorities and ability to work without direct supervision.  Strong teamwork including the ability to work closely with users and peers in system design and implementation.
