Position Summary:
As the Director of Bottling Operations, you are responsible for ensuring Delicato Family Vineyards has the capacity, production processes, metrics and staff in place to achieve its high growth objectives. Acting autonomously and as part of a larger cross-functional team, you are accountable for the productivity, staffing/structure, leadership, continuous improvement, and overall success of all DFV bottling operation locations, providing strong leadership, deep practical production line knowledge and a proven track record for process improvement, cost control and customer collaboration/satisfaction.

Utilizing thorough knowledge, technical expertise, creativity, and partnering with key stakeholders, you will manage the bottling staff in addition to developing and facilitating effective/innovative initiatives that deliver short, medium, and long-term returns. Fundamental to the success of your objectives will include establishing an effective, collaborative relationship with supply chain, winemaking, cellar, compliance, production maintenance and finance while fostering an environment that encourages and embraces new levels of innovation throughout the organization.

Director Responsibilities:

  • Understands, communicates, and shares Company vision throughout division/organization and provide cross-functional perspective, direction, and support
  • Provides leadership and personal support; coaches, guides, nurtures and develops the right people
  • Drives Company focus, manages culture, encourages strong work ethic, and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops group and individual performance plans in alignment with Company goals and objectives; communicates clearly and defines individual and group objectives; maintains level of productivity in unit
  • Trains employees to do their job; sets standards for work performance
  • Monitors performance and provides feedback to direct reports through formal and informal performance feedback; regularly communicates with staff to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, recommends termination actions
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment
  • Prepares and monitors department overhead budget

Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Ensures all bottling production standards, policies and procedures are evaluated and executed consistently between production locations
  • Responsible for the bottling process in Manteca and Napa from sanitation through to delivery of finished cased goods to the Distribution Center
  • Monitors production exceptions, incident reports and scrap rates focusing on maximum quality, cost control and efficient operations
  • Participates in development of long-term strategy to support the growth of the bottling that includes staffing, equipment, and training
  • Works collectively with Winery Operations Team and is responsible for support, development and execution of bottling related improvements and capital projects
  • Understands, supports and facilitates the acceptance of the ISO9001:2008 Quality Manual, HACCP, DOE and all associated policies procedures through modeling, coaching, mentoring, and teaching
  • Works collaboratively with Maintenance & Engineering, QC, Senior Leadership Team and key stakeholders to develop technical strategies that deliver safety, quality, and efficiency and OEE programs in order to continuously improve bottling line performance
  • Leads & directs efforts of assigned Bottling staff, including Managers, Supervisors and Technicians in their roles and responsibilities to meet objectives in safety, quality, cost, and customer service
  • Develops the talent of direct reports by partnering on training and development plans for each employee
  • Drives employee engagement, training, and development to maximize manufacturing reliability
  • Ensures that all manufacturing/facility systems are properly resourced and that all resources are efficiently utilized
  • Provides technical support for efficient troubleshooting/problem solving activities to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime
  • Monitors overall production flow and makes recommendations for process improvements
  • Proactively contributes to the company goal of zero accidents; Understands and ensures compliance to all plant safety requirements; Drives behavioral safety culture
  • Performs follow-up analysis to identify and resolve recurring operational issues
  • Collaborates with finance to create and execute a bottling budget to ensure that financial allocations and obligations are set, administered and met
  • Manages department costs and participates in budget review meetings; Continuously identifies opportunities and implements sustainable solutions to reduce costs while maintaining quality

Position Requirements:

Education: B.S. or equivalent in Business Management or a related field. MBA preferred.

Experience: 3 or more years of management experience. 5 or more years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.

Knowledge: Demonstrated leadership ability. Exceptional influence management skills with the ability to manage cross-functional resources without direct reporting relationships. Excellent communication skills – both formal and informal with the ability to communicate within all levels of the organization. Knowledge of managerial finance. Excellent problem solving skills. Strong computer application skills, including Microsoft Office Suite. Proven key leadership competencies in addition to ethics/values and integrity/trust, action oriented, decision quality, priority setting, timely decision making, time management and innovation management.
