We are currently seeking a Retail Wine Manager for our boutique wine shop. This position will be responsible for daily operations of the store, expanding our customer base through promotions and relationship management, building and maintaining a diverse selection of products, and general merchandising of store.  They will be accountable for all aspects of the retail wine store and will work hands-on with customers and staff to provide the best customer experience possible.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Wine Knowledge
    • Possess advanced wine knowledge, as well as an understanding of the wine business and current trends.

 

  • Customer Service
    • Possess outstanding communication skills, with good "floor presence".
    • Maintains a positive attitude; creates an atmosphere of friendliness through flexibility and teamwork.  
    • Generates a welcoming atmosphere in the store by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers; providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service to customers and sets a good example. 

 

  •  Sales  & Marketing Skills

o   Exhibits strong sales skills, with a track record of driving sales and building winning teams.

  •  
    • Has experience building, promoting and managing wine clubs, as well as retail websites and online sales.
    • Has experience planning and executing promotional activities (merchandise displays, activity calendar, marketing, events, advertizing, community partnerships, etc.).

  • Ordering & Inventory Management
    • Possesses experience sourcing, sampling and ordering wines from producers, distributors and importers.
    • Manages displays and stock levels. Ensures that products are easily accessible, visually appealing, and constantly available to customers.
    • Receives, processes, organizes, and stores merchandise.
    • Provides daily accounting and documentation of inventory.
    • Researches inventory discrepancies and handles inventory transfers, damaged merchandise, returns and physical audits.

 

  • Retail Management
    • Possesses experience managing a retail wine shop.

o   Analyzes reports (sales, P&L, etc.) to forecasts future sales, as well as develop and execute sales plans.

o   Manages the store’s budget and controls operating expenses (i.e. salaries, payroll hours, maintenance, supplies, utilities, phone, etc.).

o   Works closely with the owners to develop a strong strategic plan and vision for the business, which will be evaluated and updated on a regular basis.

 

  • Managing Personnel
    • Creates staff schedules, approves time and attendance and completes employee evaluations on a timely basis.
    • Effectively manages the staff. Gives timely direction and feedback in order to achieve objectives. Able to resolve problems quickly.
    • Fosters a coaching environment where team members want to excel and are recognized for their achievements. Motivates, encourages, and challenges employees, leads by example.
    • Interviews potential candidates and provides training for all new hires.

 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess advanced wine knowledge and the ability to translate this knowledge into commercial viability.
  • Possesses experience managing a retail wine shop, as well as sourcing, sampling and ordering wines from producers, distributors and importers. 
  • Demonstrated experience and education in retail, hospitality and/or wine industry management.
  • Excellent leadership and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking ability to adapt to changing day-to-day responsibilities and events.
  • Positive, friendly attitude and a team player.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in point of sale systems, cash management, VinNow, Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Possess a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (6+ hours).
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be 21 or over.

·       A flexible schedule, which includes working some evenings and weekends.
