Cellar Lead Swing Shift (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for overseeing and helping to execute cellar work for a given shift. The Cellar Lead will ensure that work orders assigned by winemaking or the Cellar Manager are executed accurately and in a timely fashion. This position will perform cellar work directly as well as assigning work to and supervising work by Cellar Workers.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Execute cellar work orders directly or by assigning to cellar workers for a given shift, ensure good communication of ongoing work orders to the next shift
• Prioritize work orders for cellar crew based on time sensitivity and work flow efficiency
• Monitor cellar for cleanliness and address issues promptly. Promote and maintain 5S system in accordance with winery goals.
• Participate in weekly cellar meetings
• Provide input on all cellar SOPs and help ensure the cellar crew is trained and following them
• Ensure tank gassing schedule is completed weekly.
• Advise winemaking of any wine quality issues such as VA, films, or other wine defects
• Manage scale house traffic so grape trucks are properly weighed and directed to appropriate locations
• Help develop and improve cellar safety program in conjunction with Safety coordinator, Cellar Manager, and Winemaking team. Maintains a “safety culture” within the cellar. Lead safety trainings and ensure cellar crew abides by all safety protocols.
• Assist in hiring, training, mentoring, disciplining cellar personnel in conjunction with Winemaker and / or Cellar Manager
• Provide feedback for and participate in Cellar employee annual reviews
• Instruct team members on the safe and proper use of all equipment and techniques
• Work with Cellar Manager and winemaking to hire and manage temporary harvest help
• Inventory cellar supplies as needed
• Maintain cellar supply storage area in a clean and tidy fashion, remove expired materials from inventory
• Receive cellar supplies and assign lot numbers
• Place supplies orders with Purchasing

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Familiarity with the use of all types of winery equipment is essential
• Good English written and verbal communication skills
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, ability to converse in Spanish a plus

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• 5+ years of cellar experience at medium to large size winery
• 1+ years of cellar supervisory experience required
