PROJECT MANAGER
Innovation & New Product Development
Role overview:
Manage new product development from concept to commercialization in order to deliver products on-time, within quality standards, and at targeted gross margins.
Job description:
Primary Responsibility:
Project Management
- Establish project brief and tasked base time line providing clear & realistic guidance to customers, sales & marketing, creative and customers.
- Manage coordination and project schedule adherence with internal stakeholders (Sales & Marketing, Finance, Winemaking, Supply Chain, Compliance) and external stakeholders (designers, vendors, bottlers, legal, etc)
- Lead monthly New Product Committee and link with other work streams as appropriate (Production meeting, Bulk allocation…)
- Maintain clear documentation of communication with vendors, designers and clients – immediately communicate project delays
- Participate in developing financial costing model and source new vendors if necessary
- Create bill of material and assist in item set up in ERP
- Establish packaging details for production (final artwork, COLA, book of specifications, QC protocol)
- Manage first run protocol with vendors and eventually attend press check to sign off on final production of components
- Analyze product cost variances vs initial budget and provide recommendations to Sr. Management to make decisions
Secondary Responsibility:
Packaging Quality Management
- Oversee the on-going quality for the new and existing components and support Production to trouble shoot any on-going quality issues
- Perform as a group leader for packaging quality issues: gathering data around issue, root cause analysis, working with vendor to identify a solution and conducting trials to implement solution
- Drive continuous improvement program
Procurement initiatives and cost saving initiatives support:
- Assist in pre and post qualification meeting
- Coordinate and participate in line trials and qualification runs
- Improve and value engineer existing components
- Identify business opportunities through constant quest of innovative solutions and close monitoring of technological developments
- Assist in new supplier capability assessment and qualification
Other:
- Documentation of standard operating procedures as directed
- Cross train to provide back-up for other members of Production team (procurement and logistic team)
- Data entry as required
- Other duties as assigned
Experience:
- Strong project management skills with in depth knowledge of packaging material, primary/secondary package designs, printing, testing processes/procedures and material handling, transportation and transit robustness (BS in Package Engineering (or related technical field) a significant plus)
- 2 to 5 years of technical and professional development experience in direct consumer product (beverage alcohol preferred)
- Experience utilizing project management software (Smart Sheet, etc)
- Experience with ERP systems (Navision a plus)
- Robust analytical and problem solving skills
- Risk management practices and techniques
- Effective presentation skills
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a cross functional team
Work Location:
Healdsburg, CA with 10% travel to vendors, bottlers and 3rd party logistic sites
