Harvest/Lab Internship (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Part Time

  Merriam Vineyards

  Healdsburg, California

We are a small sized wine production facility that produces high quality wines and rents our facility to various custom crush and AP clients. During the course of the harvest season we will process a total of between 100-150 tons of grapes. We are looking for one individual to join our seasonal harvest crew.

The available position has two components and you will have to float between different tasks as needed.

No work experience required.

The first is the cellar portion. This includes, but not limited to, sorting of fruit; transferring must, juice or wine via different kinds of pumps (air and positive displacement); mixing tanks of must with a punch down tool; and through sanitation of all equipment and tools on a regular basis. This is a physically demanding activity and you are expected to be sufficiently healthy to perform all required tasks (i.e., lifting 40 pounds). Experience on a forklift recommended but not required.

The second is the lab portion. The goal is to have this portion equal to or exceed the time spent in the cellar here at Merriam Vineyards. This includes, but is not limited to, chemical measurements, preparation and additions; pH and titratable acidity analysis on all incoming must and juice; daily Brix and temperature measurements on all fermenting lots; monthly free SO2 (aeration-oxidation) and volatile acidity (cash still) analysis. This is a mentally demanding and repetitive activity and you are expected to have an understanding of basic lab protocols, algebra and chemistry.

Employment will begin August 1st and will go until the end of harvest, usually 2-3 months. At the beginning, before fruit starts arriving with more regularity, expect 32-40 hours a week. During peak harvest expect closer to 48 hours a week. This position will be normally 8:00AM – 4:30PM on Monday – Saturday.

How To Apply
