  Peterson Winery (http://www.petersonwinery.com)

  Healdsburg, California

Peterson Winery is looking for dynamic candidates to fill a dynamic Harvest Intern position. Starting in August, running through November, candidate will work in production for the harvest season. We are a small but growing, family operation in the Dry Creek Valley. The individual selected will be an integral part of a team, working closely with both the winemaker and assistant winemaker. Since running a family winery requires each team member to wear different hats many times, we require a flexible, diversely skilled person with a desire to get dirty cleaning floors one minute and smile at tours the next. This is an ideal chance to work at a small (10,000 case) quality-oriented winery to get hands-on experience with a wide variety of production skills. Candidate has an excellent opportunity to learn all facets of wine production, including: •Proper sanitation of all winery equipment •Berry sampling, some canopy management, and harvest operations in the vineyard • Must analysis and fermentation monitoring • Destemming, crushing, and pressing grapes • Pump-overs and manual punch down fermentations • Wine movements (pumping and racking) • Barrel preparation, cleaning, steaming, and repair • Laboratory analysis (pH, TA, SO2, RS, VA, alc, ML) About you: independent and willing to work alone, smart, hard-working, willing to ask questions, tolerant/accepting of wide-range of music and ideas, have a general idea of how machines work. Be prepared to work 90 hour weeks if needed. Have a positive attitude and be both safety and detail-oriented. Have a current drivers license and ability to get to and from work. Position requires flexible hours and the ability and willingness to work on evenings and weekends. Up to 14 hour workdays are not unheard of during harvest time, though we try and keep it civil. The candidate will be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English. Reality of strength and balance needed for the job: Be able to lift up to 100lbs short distances (empty barrels onto racks), carry 50lbs (full buckets, bags of cleaning supplies) up 15 foot ladders, and shovel grape must from tanks for hours on end. Ability to use or learn to use a forklift a plus. Laboratory skills a plus. Previous winemaking experience not necessary; basic winemaking understanding and a passion for wine is. Send a resume and cover letter about yourself and interest/experience with wine. I will read cover-letters, value good writing, and am an enthusiast of proper grammar. Thanks for your interest, and consideration. Please put “No Soulless Wines” as the subject line or first line in your email so I know you have read all details carefully.
