The Position:
This candidate will be responsible for developing and managing a large and diverse program across multiple regions, varietals, styles and lots. This is the ultimate position for a talented winemaker who wants to explore regional and varietal diversity while executing at the highest level of quality across multiple price points. This individual will assist in developing programs for sourcing, harvest, production and bottling. The candidate must be interested in growing and managing a team.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with growers, brokers and winemaker partners to ensure that grapes are grown and harvested to expectations.
- Independently monitor and coordinate routine daily winemaking activities.
- Establish harvest and winemaking standards (grape sugars/acids, processing, finishing, etc.) and actively participate in crush planning.
- Integrate harvest plans with plant resources.
- Write protocol to promote wine quality and successful completion of wine programs from crushing through shipping, blending, and/or bottling.
- Supervise pressing schedule, fermentations, evaluations and labs.
- Coordinate wine or juice lab bench trials for finings or corrective additions.
- Coordinate with the wine team in the creation of blends for domestic and international programs.
- Supporting R&D, small lot, experimental procedures, and processes as related to improved winemaking and quality.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Fermentation Science or a related science such as chemistry or biochemistry.
- Proven ability to thrive in a pressure-packed startup environment.
- Must be able to work within and manage a large, complex production program and supply chain.
Experience:
- At least four years of directly related winemaking experience.
- Broad experience with the making of various wine types and styles.
