Purchasing Manager
The Purchasing Manager is primarily responsible for the procurement of materials and related services required for a winery with over half a million in annual case production. This position will oversee the materials planning function for the winery including the responsibility for inventory levels, capacity planning, on-time shipment and cost control.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of bottling operations in order to obtain bottling materials as required by the production schedule from approved suppliers
- Expertise in identifying key suppliers to develop cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to negotiate pricing and delivery
- Experience using integrated production planning system
- Plan, schedule and monitor the movement of materials through the production and delivery cycle and expedite as necessary
- Identify actual and potential delivery problems and take proactive steps to inform appropriate personnel
- Establish and maintain relationships with team members, suppliers, and customers
- Meets regularly with production/winemaking staff to ensure operational supply needs are met
- Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price per company guidelines
- Continuously researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, and distribution capabilities
Professional and Personal Skills
- 5 or more years of experience in purchasing or supply chain or combination of relevant education and experience. Wine industry experience preferred
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Work and Excel
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Positive attitude and a team player
- Understanding of MRP, computerized purchase order, and inventory control systems is required
- Must have strong purchasing related negotiation skills and knowledge of negotiation strategies
