Position:   Corporate Controller

Objective and Scope of Position:

The Corporate Controller is responsible for all accounting, financial reporting management and internal controls. This position will lead and manage all financial operations necessary to deliver timely and accurate internal and external financial reporting in support of the company’s public filings and compliance,  provide organizational and administrative support for the financial and fiduciary operations of the business; participate with senior management to provide insight into and support of the goals and objectives of the organization; implement the highest level of standards for visibility into the business; and ensure effective and efficient administration with respect to financial reporting requirements.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.      

•          Directs and supports all aspects of the financial close cycle and financial statement preparation for both internal and external reporting

•          Directs and implements accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

•          Coordinates all internal and external financial audits.

•          Ensures compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements.

•          Assists in all budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning activities for the company.

•          Prepares financial data / presentations for company board meetings. 

•          Assists with planning and administration for the company’s annual shareholder meetings.

•          Provides analysis and evaluation of business strategies, contract negotiations and investment decisions to management.

•          Oversees all aspects of the accounting function; including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and purchasing.

•          Hires, trains, supervises and motivates accounting managers.

•          Provides day-to-day guidance, support and continuous improvement of the accounting team, including actively working to promote and recognize performance or identify problem areas and take corrective action.

•          Manages relationships with outside tax accountants, auditors, and other professionals as required.

•          Assists with maintaining, drafting and reviewing company contracts.

•          Drives and implements continuous improvement and insight into all business policies, procedures and systems.

•          Assists with special projects as assigned by manager.

•          Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

 

 

Desired Skills and Experience

Job Requirements:

Education: be a CPA or hold an accounting degree, Wine Industry a plus, strong project management skills, experience in managing supply chain functions.        

 

Experience and Skills:

·  High analytical ability, good business judgment, and strong operational process orientation

·  Must excel in an entrepreneurial environment, hands on leader making decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

·  Must be able to effectively cope with ambiguity.

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to interact and work well across all levels of the organization as well a demonstrated facilitation of presentation to the board

·  Manage effectively the teams and increase overall performance of the functions.  Has ability to resolve conflicts in a fair and consistent manner

·  Is a team player and able to adapt approach across diverse employee base.

·  Establish and maintain strong relationship at all levels in the organization and with external auditors

·  Strong problem solving and creative skills

·  5 years’ experience, wine experience beneficial, but not required

·  Ability to grasp technology, and provide IT and supply chain strategic direction
